How Reindeer Fly

If one were to give the matter any thought, what Santa and his reindeer accomplish every Christmas Eve is really quite mind-boggling. Figuring (very conservatively) that if Santa must visit a little over 100 million households in his twenty-four-hour trip around the world, this means that he has to make approximately 1,100 stops per second. He and the reindeer, therefore, must travel nearly 700 miles per second (which is 3,500 times the speed of sound)!

“Psycho-Travel” – Chapter Two – “Brooklyn, Social Work in the City”
Set in the 1970’s, “Psycho-travel” is a comic adventure novel that recounts the lives of two young New Yorkers who travel the world in search of love and adventure. Lou is a New York social worker and Carl is a chemist. When one of Lou’s lovers tells Carl he is crazy, his response is “only part of the time.” Lou has to work hard keeping the mad chemist in check, such as when he attempts to buy a monkey at the famous Djeema El Fna marketplace in Marrakesh Morocco. Lou’s philosophy, kindly provided by his loving father, is that life should be enjoyed, not simply endured. Lou attempts to follow that philosophy with a vengeance as his travels take him to such far-off places as Kuala Lumpur, Hong Kong, the jungles of northern Guatemala, the Amazon, Istanbul. Mallorca, and many other places in the world.

The Day the Earth Stood Still Thousands of Years Ago
Yesterday, my mother and I traveled to Warner Robins, Georgia just because we needed a change of scenery. We live in the heart of Agginville USA, and Agginville is sometimes a suffocating and strange place, which is why we were compelled to get away for at least one day. While in Warner Robins, my mom and I had the pleasure of going to the movie theatre to see ‘The Day The Earth Stood Still’. …

Chinese Puzzle Balls
The art of ornamental design has been part of China’s culture for thousands of years. Art and craft have gone hand in hand to create items of great beauty and functionality. Beauty and functionality are inseparable from each other, for beauty itself is a function in Chinese culture. Each shares in equal importance. Intricately painted wall scrolls, highly ornamented hand fans, and other items of Chinese art are well known. Not so the Chinese Puzzle Ball. The Chinese Puzzle Ball is one of the summits of Chinese ornamental design and beauty.

Small Things – Princesses and Pirates
I was shop-vac-ing my “Princess Cat Parlour” – I’ll explain what this is shortly – when I heard a “thwop” following by the bagpipey noise that indicates, “In four hours the ship blows up, Captain.” I turned the vac off, and found the plug midway up the wand – where two lengths are joined. I separated them and “plip”, out fell…a dead mouse. A rather well-fed dead mouse.
